Former New Zealand opener Martin Guptill will play Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket for Biratnagar Kings. Guptill had played NPL for Biratnagar last year as well. But Biratnagar could not reach the playoffs.
Guptill had scored 137 runs in 6 matches for Biratnagar at a strike rate of over 120. He had scored 55 runs in his first match of the NPL against Janakpur Bolts. Biratnagar team director Deependra Chaudhary said that Guptill's arrival will strengthen the batting lineup and give the team aggression during the power play.
Guptill has scored more than 13,000 runs in 47 Tests, 198 One-Day Internationals and 122 Twenty20 Internationals for New Zealand. In the 2015 ODI World Cup held at home, he played an unbeaten innings of 237 runs off 168 balls against the West Indies, which is the second highest score in ODIs.
Despite retiring from international cricket last year, Guptill has been playing in the Global Franchise League. Biratnagar had signed Faf du Plessis for the upcoming NPL season just two days ago.
