Rohit Poudel became the first Nepali player to score two centuries in One Day Internationals. Despite that, Nepal suffered its second consecutive defeat in the World Cup League 2 cricket. UAE defeated Nepal by 5 wickets in Dubai on Thursday.

Rohit achieved this feat by scoring 109 runs against UAE. Nepal had set a target of 234 runs for UAE with Rohit's effort. Nepal, who won the toss and elected to bat, were all out for 233 runs in 50 overs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Opener Aryans Sharma scored 98 runs against the ball, after which UAE scored 237 runs in 43.3 overs. Player of the Match Sharma hit 10 fours and 3 sixes. Sharma was returned to the pavilion by Sandeep Lamichhane in a return catch. His opening partnership Alishan Sarafu scored 45 runs in 26 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. Earlier, Paras Khadka, Kushal Bhurtel, Anil Kumar Sah, Asif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airi and Bhim Sarki had scored centuries for Nepal in ODIs. The last time they played an ODI at this ground was in 2019, captain Paras scored a century, which was also the first century by a Nepali player in an ODI.

Rohit scored 126 runs against Papua New Guinea in 2022, which is the highest score by a Nepali player in an ODI. In that match too, Nepal suffered a 6-run defeat. Rohit scored his first century in an ODI as captain.

Rohit had previously been restricted to a score of ninety twice. In 2022, he scored an unbeaten 95 against Scotland in Kirtipur. Similarly, he scored 96 runs against the USA in Dallas last year and was dismissed on the last ball of the innings.

Apart from Rohit, Bhurtel 7, Asif Sheikh 35, Bhim Sarki 3, Arif Sheikh 27, Dipendra Singh Airi 23, Sompal Kami 6 and Karan were dismissed for 13 runs from Nepal in Thursday's match. Gulshan Jha could not open his account. Nepal will play the third match of this series against the USA on Saturday.
