A young Australian cricketer has died after suffering an injury during practice in Melbourne.

Ben Austin, a 17-year-old cricketer, was practicing in the nets when a ball thrown from an automatic bowling machine hit him in the head and neck. 

He was wearing a helmet during practice, according to international media reports. Emergency services were called to the scene on Tuesday after he was injured.

Ben was put on life support in hospital. But he died in hospital on Wednesday. His cricket club said Ben was a talented and popular player.
