Champion Janakpur Bolts are set to bring in South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell to play in the second season of Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket. Janakpur Bolts have already signed an agreement with Parnell for this.

The 36-year-old left-handed batsman has played 6 Tests, 73 ODIs and 56 Twenty20 Internationals for South Africa. He has taken 173 wickets in the process. He played in the 2006 ICC U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka and captained South Africa in the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia two years later.

Parnell has played for Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He has experience playing in global franchise leagues. He has taken 317 wickets in 300 matches in all formats of Twenty20 cricket.

‘I am very excited to play in the NPL, I have seen the passion of Nepali cricket fans. I have also heard a lot of good things about the NPL. I am eager to play in front of the fans in the title defense of Janakpur Bolts. I am very excited to be a part of Janakpur Bolts, whether on or off the field,’ said Parnell.

He is the second foreign player to be signed by Janakpur Bolts, owned by Dream Sports. The team has already signed Sri Lankan American cricketer Lahiru Milandha, the hero of the first edition. The Bolts will take to the field this time under the main coaching of West Indies cricket legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Bolts Managing Director Niroj Khatiwada said that he is very excited to sign Parnell. ‘Parnell has made his mark in world cricket with a long experience playing for the national team since U-19. Such a great experience will strengthen our team’s campaign to defend the title. It is a matter of pride for us to get the opportunity to show his world-class playing skills to Nepali cricket fans. Parnell will instill great confidence not only in the Bolts team, but also in the Nepal Premier League.’

Janakpur Bolts are currently conducting their training camp at the Chennai Super Kings Academy in India. Three players from the team, Asif Sheikh, Lalit Rajbanshi and Anil Sah, are in Dubai to play for the Nepali team in the World Cricket League 2.
