Indian cricket team batsman Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to the hospital due to an injury sustained during the third match against Australia. Doctors have said that his condition is now stable. He had injured his spleen.

In the 34th over of the third ODI of the series, he fell to the left while running back to take the catch while dismissing Alex Carey. Iyer, who was in pain, was taken to the hospital as the injury was serious despite first aid on the field.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not given any information about his immediate return to the team. But his condition is said to be stable.

On Monday, the BCCI issued a statement saying, ‘On October 25, Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury below his left rib while fielding on the field during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. He has since been taken to the hospital for a check-up.’

A scan revealed a splenectomy. His treatment is ongoing and he is improving, the BCCI said.
