The Nepal Karate Federation has honored Erica, who won the gold medal in Series One, with a cash award of Rs 100,000 and coach Kushal Shrestha with Rs 50,000.
The Nepal Sitorio Karate Association has honored Erika Gurung, the medalist in the WKF Karate Series One held in Malaysia, with cash.
The association honored international medal winner Erica with a cash award of Rs 100,000 at a press conference organized at the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) in Tripureshwor on Tuesday.
Nepal Karate Federation President Yubaraj Lama, Vice Presidents Dev Lama and Majendra Singh, and General Secretary Dawa Lama presented Erica with a cash award of Rs 100,000 and her coach Kushal Shrestha with a certificate of appreciation of Rs 50,000.
Erica won the gold medal in the 68 kg weight category in Series One held in Malaysia. This is the first medal won by Nepal in Series One.
On the occasion, the association also honored Sanumaya Thing, who has been selected for the World Karate Championship to be held in Egypt, and coach Mandekaji Shrestha with a khada.
At the program, Nepal Karate Federation President Lama expressed the view that coaches should continuously update themselves and create an environment for winning medals in international level competitions.
‘It will not be easy to bring medals if you go to play prepared from the old situation,’ he said.
Coach Shrestha said that respect is a great motivation for the success of the players.
Erica also said that she is ready for the upcoming World Karate Championship by forgetting all the negative aspects.
‘A good impression is being made about Nepal in the world karate,’ said Erica.
