Sri Lankan-American cricketer Lahiru Milantha will play in the second season of Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket for Janakpur Bolts. Janakpur Bolts, owned by Dream Sports Pvt. Ltd., has announced that Milantha has been signed.
Last season, while making Janakpur the winner of the first season of the NPL, Milantha played an important role in the final against Sudurpaschim Royals by scoring 87 runs in 49 balls, including 9 fours and 4 sixes, and helping Janakpur win by 5 wickets. After that innings in the final, Milantha became the highest run-scorer in the NPL. He scored the most runs last year, 293. Milantha also hit the most boundaries, 34, in the first season of the NPL.
Managing Director Niroj Khatiwada said that Milantha's old relationship with Janakpur Bolts has been continued. Milantha, who once played for Sri Lanka 'A' and Sri Lanka's emerging team, is familiar with Nepali soil. He played for Lumbini All Stars in the controversial Nepal T-20 League held 3 years ago.
Milantha scored 349 runs at a strike rate of over 122 in the All-Star team's victory. He was third in the list of highest run-scorers in the tournament. Milantha scored a top score of 41 runs off 28 balls in the final.
Milantha is the first foreign player brought in by the Bolts for this season. Managing Director Niroj Khatiwada said that more foreign players will be announced in the coming days. The Bolts have already appointed West Indies cricket legend Shivnarayan Chandrapaul as their head coach.
