Australia defeated India by seven wickets in the first One-Day International (ODI) in Perth on Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Set a revised target of 131 runs to win in the rain-affected match, Australia achieved the winning run in 21.1 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Opener and captain Mitchell Marsh top-scored with 46 runs and remained unbeaten off 52 balls. He hit two fours and three sixes. Similarly, Josh Phillip scored 37 runs while Matt Raines remained unbeaten on 21 runs and Australia managed to comfortably win.

Earlier, India had scored 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the shortened match of 26 overs. KL Rahul scored 38 runs off 31 balls for India, which was the highest individual score. Similarly, Axar Patel added 31 runs.

The team's two experienced players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both failed with the bat. Rohit scored eight runs while Virat could not even open his account and was out for zero. Among the Australian bowlers, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Owen and Matthew Kuneman took two wickets each.
