Planning Boys defeated Sahlesh Youth Club Siraha by a 2-1 goal margin in an exciting final held at Belbari-11, Laxmi Marg, Morang on Saturday to become the champions of the eighth edition. Sahlesh Youth Club, which was limited to runners-up last year, had to settle for second place this time too. Both teams had an aggressive performance right from the start of the match.
In the fifth minute of the first half, Planning Boys' jersey number 9 Sujan Magar took advantage of a one-on-one opportunity from near the box and scored a goal to give the team the lead. However, at the beginning of the second half, Sameer Tamang scored a goal on a pass from Sahlesh's Milan Rai.
However, in the 20th minute of the match, Planning Boys took the lead again with Sujan Magar's second goal. Sujan converted captain Pratap Singh Rai's cross pass into a goal.
During the match, players from both teams had to face cards. Sameer Tamang of Sahlesh and Abinash Syangten of Planning received yellow cards, while Dipesh Dhimal of Sahlesh received a red card after fouling captain Pratap Singh Rai from behind.
Sahlesh missed the equalizer opportunity in the game. Kuldeep Karki's free kick hit the bar and Milan Rai missed the equalizer opportunity from inside the box.
Sameer Tamang of Sahlesh was declared the man of the match and received a cash prize of 11,000. Yogesh Dhimal of Planning was the best goalkeeper. Mingma Ghising of Planning and Raman Bhujel of Planning were declared the best defenders. Each received a trophy and a medal along with 11,000 in cash.
The best player of the tournament was Pratap Singh Rai of Planning, who received 25,000 in cash and a medal. The winner Planning Boys United received a cash prize of Rs 8 lakh, while the runner-up Sahlesh Youth Club received a cash prize of Rs 4 lakh, along with a trophy and medal.
The prize distribution was jointly handed over by Belbari Municipality Mayor DP Rai, organizer LX City Club President Bikram Rai, ANFA Vice President Dawa Tamang and ANFA Central Member Dipendra Dhimal.
The tournament trophy is made of 4 kg silver and 2.5 tola gold, which the organizer has stated that the club that wins the title three times will be allowed to keep permanently.
Last year's title was won by Jhapa-11.
The Running Gold Cup organized in memory of the late Major N.B. Rai was organized with the courtesy of Laxmi Marg residents Popiraj Rai and Jyotiraj Rai, informed the club's general secretary Shambhu Basnet.
