The UAE easily defeated Japan by 8 wickets on Thursday in the deciding match of the Asia-East Asia Pacific Qualifiers Super Sixes being held in Muscat, Oman.
The UAE has become the last nation to qualify for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup. The UAE comfortably defeated Japan by eight wickets in the Super Sixes decider of the Asia-East Asia Pacific qualifiers in Muscat, Oman, on Thursday.
The UAE, who were in a difficult position after losing to Nepal and Oman in the first two matches of the Super Six, have won their second consecutive match to secure their place in the 10th edition of the 20-nation ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Nepal and Oman had already qualified for the World Cup from Wednesday's match. Nepal has 8 points and Oman has 6 points. The UAE has 6 points after defeating Japan. Japan has only 2 points. Japan is in a position to not meet the UAE with the last match to be played. After a comprehensive victory over Japan, the UAE has surpassed Oman in net run rate to move up to second place.
Oman and Japan are playing on Friday. Nepal will play Samoa. If Nepal wins this match, it will become the winner of the 9-nation tournament. Nepal and Samoa are going to face each other for the first time. The UAE last failed to qualify for the Twenty20 World Cup when they lost to Nepal in the semi-finals in Mulpani in 2023.
Japan, who were invited to bat after losing the toss at the Al Emirates Cricket Ground, scored 116 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Wataru Miyauchi scored the highest unbeaten 45 runs in 32 balls. He hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in 32 balls. Isam Rahman was out for 23 runs in 26 balls with 3 fours. UAE's Haider Ali took 3 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. Mohammad Irfan took 2 wickets and Junaid Siddiqui, Dhruv Parasar and Zahid Ali took 1 wicket each.
Alisan Sarafu and captain Mohammad Wasim made a brilliant start by putting on 70 runs in 7 overs, which led the UAE to 118 runs in 12.1 overs. Wasim scored 42 off 26 balls with 8 fours and Sarafu scored 46 off 27 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Mayank Kumar remained unbeaten on 13 and Rahul Chopra on 14.
