Janakpur Bolts, the champion team of Nepal Cricket League (NPAPL), has appointed the great batting personality of West Indies Shivnarayan Chandrapal as the head coach. Before the second edition of the NPL starting from November 1, Bolts entrusted Chandrapal with training.
In the first season last year, the former coach of Nepal Pubudu Dasanayake made Janakpur Bolts the winner. The Bolts bid farewell to Dasanayake in a statement on Monday. Dasanayake is currently the coach of the US national team.
The Bolts family expects the appointment of Chandrapal to continue the legacy they have created in the NPL. 51-year-old Chandrapal is a player who has been included in the ICC Hall of Fame. Janakpur Bolts have signed a long-term contract with the head coach Shivnarayan Chandrapal, according to the Managing Director Niroj Khatiwada.
We are committed to furthering our legacy in one of the fastest growing leagues in world cricket. His presence will provide stability to our coaching staff as well as inspire the indigenous manpower to learn and grow. As a great veteran of the game, we believe that he will bring new ideas, strategies and approaches to make the Bolts a winner again," Khatiwada said in the Bolts' statement.
Chandrapal has played 164 Tests and 268 One Day Internationals for the West Indies. Chandrapal scored more than 20,000 runs in his 21-year international career. He has experience of playing in Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Vitality Blast, Bangladesh Premier League, Champions League T20 and Indian Premier League. He also spent a long time in county cricket as a player.
In 2022, Chandrapal became the coach of CPL's franchise team, Jamaica Talwahs. In the same year, he also became the coach of the US women's national cricket team. In the NPL starting from 1st November, Janakpur will enter the Kirtipur field under the training of Chandrapal as the defending champion.
