Culkin set a national record

Culkin set a national record

Culkin Shrestha of Nepal has set a new national record in the men's 800m freestyle of the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship on Wednesday.

At the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, India, Culkin completed the set distance in 9 minutes 12.62 seconds and set a new record.

Culkin broke the record of 10 minutes 00.85 seconds set by Shirish Gurung in the NSA Cup swimming competition in 2013. In this event, Atharva Singh also surpassed Shirish's record with a performance of 9 minutes and 16.91 seconds.

On Wednesday, Nepalese athletes also set a national record in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay. The team consisting of Abhib Pradhan, Jaden Shrestha, Revanta Bahadur Shrestha and Alvin Maharjan set a national record by clocking a time of 3 minutes 47.73 seconds.

They broke the record of 3 minutes 48.57 seconds set at the Wimstek Aquatics Championship in New Delhi, India in 2024.

Nepali players set a total of 4 national records in the tournament.

Earlier, Atharva set a record of 17 minutes 43.57 seconds in 1500 meters freestyle and 4 minutes 58.34 seconds in 400 meters individual medley . He also broke both the records held by Shirish.
