I was going to play the World Championship for the first time. It was happening in Tokyo, Japan. I had prepared as much as I could for the World Championship. There was joy and excitement in my heart because I would be present among one of the world's athletics players. I was the only one selected for the championship from Nepal. Because of that, I felt more responsibility to perform well in Japan.
On the day of the Zenji movement (August 23) in the afternoon, I and RK Sir (Bisht) left the National Sports Council (Rakhep) to go to the World Championship. The next day (August 24) was a ticket to fly to Japan. There were reports that many people were killed and many others were injured in the evening protest . The
situation seemed unusual. Needless to say, the protest took a different form on Tuesday. Devastation was created in the country . We also could not travel to Japan. The airport itself was closed. There was confusion as to what would happen to the country. Because of that, I had no hope that I would be able to play in the World Championship.
However, it was still a little while before the championship started. The competition started only on August 28 (September 13). I was sitting without hope . I am a departmental player. I am in the army. Now, whenever I have to do duty, I used to wear chusta (army dress) for that . But RK Sir was taking the initiative to go as soon as the airport opened. After the airport opened on August 26, we came for the World Championship. My game was the day after the
championship started. I took part in the 1500m race . Couldn't perform as expected. My goal in this world championship was to break the national record . However, that goal could not be achieved. He had to participate in the World Championship under a lot of mental stress.
Thank you, despite the harsh conditions of the country, I was able to come to Japan and play in the World Championship, I got exposure, I gained experience . That was a big achievement for me. I completed the distance in 2 minutes 53.99 seconds . The target was to break the national record of 2 minutes and 46 seconds, but this year it was not possible. Next time I will definitely break . The
championship was held at the Japan National Stadium. We had 15 competitors in our initial hit . I ran with high morale . It was going well for two laps. After that it felt a bit difficult and I couldn't reach the target . In the
championship, one of the world's players appeared. It sometimes made me think that I am not a player. They were equipped as players. I was the trainer who gave the training. I felt that if I had a coach to train them, I would be the same. I thought, the reason why we could not get good results at the international level is the same thing .
Next year, the 20th Asian Games will be held in Japan. I am also training by focusing on that. The goal is to win a medal in the Asian Games. Athletics has yet to win a medal in Asiad. It is determined that if I get good training, I can kiss that achievement . For that, the Athletics Association is also saying that they will arrange foreign training.
It seems that we have not yet understood the global importance of sports . The movement of Gen-G generation has turned the country towards change. At this time, extensive changes are also needed in sports . The government should see sports as an industry and increase investment accordingly. The livelihood of the players playing for the nation should be guaranteed . I think that we can succeed in international competitions only if we proceed in a professional and scientific manner.
