The 'First Union Cup' Double Badminton Tournament has started from Wednesday at Bhusaldanda Covered Hall in Tansen, Palpa. 92 players in 46 teams are participating in the two-day competition organized by Nepal Civil Servants Union Palpa.
Similarly, 22 players in 11 teams participated in the women's competition, informed Om Prakash Neupane, the president of the civil servants union.

Hari Bahadur Thapa, secretary of the union, said that a badminton competition was held between the employees of Palpa's two municipalities, eight rural villages, as well as federal and state offices. Only a group of employees working in the same office participated in the competition. In the
competition, the first group for men will get 20,000, the second will get 10,000 and the two groups who will get third will get 5/5000 in cash and a trophy. Competition coordinator Jeevan Rana informed that the first runner-up will get Rs 8,000, the second runner-up Rs 4,000 and the third runner-up Rs 2,000 as well as a trophy. Inaugurating the
competition, Chief District Officer of Palpa Vinu Bajracharya Kunwar urged the service delivery to be honest and customer-friendly, as only if the employees are healthy, the work of the customers will be faster. "Sports are not given much priority in the civil service," she said.
In the opening match of the tournament, which was played on three courts, the 'B' group of Division One office was defeated by the 'A' group of Purvkhola rural municipality in straight sets by 2-0. Similarly, another prison office group defeated District Court 'B' group in straight sets by 2-0. On the women's side, Kaligandaki Corridor Project Office's 'A' group defeated Napi Office's 'B' group in straight sets by 2-0.
