Australia's left-handed fast bowler Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from Twenty20 international cricket on Tuesday with immediate effect. Starc said that now he will focus more on Tests and ODIs.

"Test cricket is my top priority and always has been," Starc, 35, said in a statement. He announced this before the Twenty20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka in six months.

"I was fascinated by every minute of the Twenty20 I played for Australia, the 2021 World Cup was even more special," he said. Starc played 65 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia. When Australia won the Twenty20 World Cup four years ago, Starc was a key member of that team.

During that time, he has taken 79 wickets. Only Adam Zampa has more wickets than him in Twenty20 internationals from Australia. Starc took this decision before the upcoming busy season of cricket in Australia. Australia is playing the Aces series at home this year, while the ODI World Cup cricket is next year.

"This decision was necessary to stay fresh and fit if we look at the tour of India, the Aces series and the 2027 World Cup," Starc said, "It will also give preparation time for the bowlers who will come before the Twenty-20 World Cup." He was already included in the Australian team for the Twenty-20 series against New Zealand.

Starc has taken 402 wickets in 112 Tests. In July, he bowled incredibly in the Test against the West Indies, as a result of which the home team West Indies were bowled out for just 27 runs in the Kingston Test. Starc took 6 wickets at the expense of 9 runs. This is his best bowling performance in Test cricket. He has also scored 2,322 runs at an average of over 20 in

Tests. Starc has also taken 244 wickets in 127 ODIs.
