The fourth edition of 'Top of the World Golf Classic', the highest golf tournament in the world, will be held on 28th and 29th of August this year at Lowthang, Mustang. 60 golfers from the country and abroad will participate in this golf course located at an altitude of 4,700 meters in Lomanthang Rural Municipality of Upper Mustang.
Mustang Golf Course held a press conference in Pokhara on Sunday and informed about the competition. According to Indradhara Bista, the managing director of the organization, in the previous tournament, only 9 holes were played, but this year the competition will be 18 holes. It is believed to make the game more challenging and exciting. Among the main attractions of the
tournament, it has been announced that a horse will be given as a prize to the player who wins a hole in one, which will be a unique and interesting prize in the world's golf history, Bista said. Even though the horse prize has been held since the first edition of the tournament, no golfer has been able to win the 'Hole in One'. This year's competition is titled 'Tea for Climate'. It aims to draw the world's attention to the growing crisis of climate change. Bista said that this initiative was taken from a high-ranking golf course to send a message to the world about the climate crisis in Mustang.
This time there will be a separate competition between the best four professional golfers of Nepal. The winners will receive a prize of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. A trophy will be awarded to the winner on the amateur side. Separate prizes have also been arranged for the winner, runner-up, best gross, lady winner, senior winner, closest to the pin, most birdies and longest drive. The competition will be played in stableford format. Lomanthang Rural Municipality and Gandaki Provincial Government have supported to complete the competition. The
organization is continuing its efforts to register this golf course in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's best and highest golf course. "This concept has been started especially for the development of tourism in Mustang and Nepal," Bista, who is also a former member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly, said.
