English football has probably officially got a wonder player. His name is, Rio Engumoha. After scoring against Newcastle United in the English Premier League, he became the youngest player to score for Liverpool.

He was 16 years, 361 days old when he scored the decisive goal at St James' Park on Monday night. During that goal, he looked more mature than his age. His shot left Newcastle keeper Nick Pope with no save and the defending champions ran out sensational winners.

Engumoha came on in the 90th minute to replace Cody Gakpo. He scored the winning goal in the 10th minute of the game with 11 minutes of extra time added. Coach Arne Slott gave him the opportunity to make his 'debut' in the Premier League from this match.

Engumoha is now in everyone's eyes because of one goal. What English football pundits are beginning to believe is that these young players could be crucial if Liverpool are to defend their title. This is his third goal for Liverpool. Earlier, he scored two goals and two assists in a friendly match last month.

Especially since he's just starting to come into the limelight, but for those who know the inside of English football, he's been a center of hope from the start. It was said when he joined Chelsea in 2016 at the age of 8, this player's talent is high, his potential is high. After spending 8 years at Chelsea, he joined Liverpool.

Ngumoha did not agree with Chelsea. In October 2023, when Chelsea U-16 were the English champions, he was named the best player of the tournament. Of course, Chelsea are not happy that Liverpool have spent so long in their academy. A decision of Engumoha to go to Liverpool also created a situation of tension between Chelsea and Liverpool Academy.  The

situation was that those who were known as 'scouts' were not even allowed to enter the age group football for some time. According to The Athletic, Chelsea were the first to decide to ban 'scouts'. Later, not only Liverpool, Manchester United also tried to sign him. Finally, he went to Liverpool and that's when former Chelsea captain John Torrey praised him.

Terry said, 'This player is good now, he will be good later.' In particular, Jamal Musiala is another big name who grew up in the Chelsea academy and finally left this club. Chelsea sold him to Bayern Munich for two million euros. Since then, he has been the best player not only for Bayern, but in Germany. He has scored 45 goals in 138 games for Bayern.

Engumoha is naturally surrounded by the media after the game against Newcastle. His initial reaction is, 'I am very happy. The moment I scored the decisive goal will be unforgettable. Coach Slott in particular told him to get ready to enter the field and leave a decisive impact on the game.

“It was luck that I did,” Engumoha later recounted. "No matter how many teammates I have, everyone keeps motivating me to play well," he added. Arsenal legend Thierry Henry also praised him after Liverpool's win. He said, "Engumoha has announced that he has come to the center." Slot himself also says that this player is capable of performing well beyond his age.

This is not his official debut against Newcastle. He previously played against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup. At the same time, he became the youngest player to play in the FA Cup for Liverpool at 16 years and 135 days. He became the youngest player to start for the club. However, he is not the youngest player to score in Premier League history.

Credit goes to Everton's James Vaughan. He scored for another Merseyside club in 2005 at 16 years 270 days. Liverpool will not be the only one who will be happy with his performance, especially the entire English football will be happy. What has happened to English football recently is that one after another talented players are coming forward for the national team and Engumoha is at the forefront.
