Liverpool's initial bid for Swedish striker Alexander Isak has been rejected by Newcastle. Isaac's future has been in doubt since the transfer case.
Isaac has been training alone at his former club Real Sociedad this week after telling Newcastle he was leaving St James' Park. The 25-year-old Isaac has been linked with Premier League champions Liverpool since the end of last season.
Liverpool's £110 million offer on Friday was rejected by Newcastle, and Issac's future has become even more uncertain. Newcastle have stated that the price of Isaac is 150 million pounds and will not sell for less than that. Liverpool were now believed to be making a second bid for Issac, adding more money. But Liverpool said they would not try the second offer.
Isaac came to Newcastle in 2022 from Real Sociedad for 60 million pounds. Last season he scored 23 goals in the Premier League as Newcastle qualified for the Champions League. He has 3 years left on his contract with Newcastle. But he was not included in Newcastle's pre-season tour to Asia. Although the club said he had a minor injury to his thigh, Isak did not join the team because the transfer matter was not certain.
Real Sociedad said on Thursday that Isaac was training with his trainers at the club. As reported on Friday, Newcastle asked Issac for a new contract starting next year, but he replied that he wanted to leave Newcastle immediately.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott has tried to bolster his team's attack with the recent signings of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ikiteke and Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. They are trying to bring in Isak, who is unable to establish a slot to further strengthen the forward position. After bringing in Isaac, Liverpool is hoping to win the English league title for the first time since the 1980s.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was tough on Isaac this week, saying, "He's still our player, we still have a contract. We try to control him to some extent as to what happens next. I enjoy that all possibilities are still with us. I wish he stays in Newcastle, but that is not under my control. Along with Wirtz and Ikitike, Milos Kerkes, Jeremy Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili have arrived at Anfield. Liverpool have already raised around £115m by selling Luis Diaz, Jarrell Kwansah, Caomin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
