The Nepali men's team has taken the lead on the first day of the South Asian qualifying tournament for the World Table Tennis Team Championship.

At the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lainchour, Nepal won all of the 3 matches played on Wednesday. Nepal beat Sri Lanka 3-0, Maldives 3-1 and Bangladesh 3-2 in the 5-team round robin league. Nepal will face India on Thursday. The Nepalese team consists of Sanyog Kapali, Ruvin Maharjan, Rajeev Chikambanjar and Gananjay Dahal.

Second ranked India defeated Sri Lanka and Bangladesh with the same result of 3-0 . India has yet to play against Maldives along with Nepal.

Nepal has won 2 and lost 1 while playing three matches in the women's side of the tournament organized by the All Nepal Table Tennis Association. After defeating Maldives and Bangladesh 3-0, Nepal lost 2-3 to Sri Lanka. The Nepali team consists of Vianka Rai, Ivana Thapa, Navita Shrestha and Yoongi Poudel. Nepal will also face India on Thursday in women's participating in five teams. Apart from Bhutan and Pakistan, 34 players from 5 countries including Nepal are participating in the

competition. 10 players from India, 8 players each from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives are participating. The top male/female team in the

round robin league will qualify for the World Table Tennis Team Championship in September 2026 in England .
