Kathmandu District Taekwondo Association bid farewell to the 7-member Nepali team including 5 athletes participating in the 10th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship (G4) on Saturday.

All the five Nepalese players will compete in the tournament to be held in Kuching, Malaysia on July 16. The team will go to Malaysia on July 13.

All the five players will participate in different weight groups under the K-44 category. Men's under 58 kg Olympian Bharat Singh Mahata and under 63 kg Amir Bhlon will compete.

Palesha Gobardhan, the bronze winner of the Paris Paralympics and 4th Asian Para Games under 57 kg, Kamana Prasai and Renu Tamang will play under 47 kg. Palesha, who is studying in Shanghai, China, will go to Malaysia from there.

Para Taekwondo coach Kaviraj Negi Lama plays the role of coach. Ramchandra Shrestha is the manager. Coach Lama said that competition is important to improve ranking. Nepal has been continuously participating in the competition since the first edition. So far, Nepal has won 6 medals including 1 silver and 5 medals, said coach Lama. Ranjana Dhami won silver and bronze. Palesha, Arun Shakya, Sita Bhandari and Rohithang Rai won bronze. The

team was farewelled by Rupak Rajwanshi, Vice President Sunita Singh, President of Education and Sports Committee under Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Vikram Khadgi, President of Kathmandu District Taekwondo Association and others.

President Rajwanshi announced that the team will be given 50,000 cash as an incentive. On the initiative of Lions Club of Kathmandu Taekwondo Nepal and Lions Club of Kathmandu Marigold, tracksuits provided by Sumi Pariyar, a former taekwondo player living in America, were handed over. Kathmandu District Taekwondo Association also provided t-shirts to the team.
