The National Sports Council (Rakhep) has set a goal of winning double digits of medals including gold in the 20th Asian Games (Asiad) to be held in Japan next year.

Council Member-Secretary Tanklal Ghising said this goal while addressing a meeting attended by officials and chief coaches of 10 sports associations participating in special training for national team preparation under Mission-2026 at the International Sports Complex in Satdobato on Tuesday.

This is the plan to win a double digit medal including gold in the 20th Asian Games to be held in Japan. Mission 2026 is a plan to make the country happy," he said.

He said that athletes can win more medals only if they have the opportunity to train continuously. He said that the relevant sports association will play an equally important role in making Mission 2026 a success. The member secretary also instructed the association to come up with a clear and concrete plan of action within a week as there are 13 months left for the Asian Games.

Ghising emphasized that the association should broaden the international scope for the training of players and pointed out the need to cooperate with their respective international federations and embassies.

He said that currently 27 million have come for Mission-2026. Asking them not to worry about the low budget, he promised to come up with a solid plan from the unions and take serious initiatives to release the budget. He expected that the establishment of the National Hyperperformance Center and the Sports Science Research Center would also significantly improve the ability of Nepalese athletes.

Director of National Team Preparation Deepak Bisht said that the meeting was held to get suggestions on how the training can be carried forward in a more powerful and effective manner. He informed that the training will resume after the fitness test of the players.

The representative of the participating sports association and the head coach gave their opinion about the sports content, events, exposure, sports venue, player quota, arrangement of foreign coaches or foreign training, increase in facilities, dosage, arrangement of spiring partners, etc.

With the aim of winning a double digit medal including gold at the Asian Games in Japan, Rakhep started special training for the national team preparation from the year 2080/81 under Mission-2026.

This is the first time in Nepali sports history that long-term preparations have been started for any Asian sports or international competition. 99 players of 10 different sports including Para Taekwondo and 121 people with 22 coaches were kept in special training with facilities.
