Para athletics duo Prabha Angdambe and Himal Aryal have got direct entry for the World Para Athletics Championship. This is the biggest Para Athletics event that Nepal is going to participate in.
The 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships will be held from September 27 to October 5 in New Delhi, India. It is touted to be the biggest para sports event to be held in India. Where more than 1000 athletes of para athletics from all over the world will be given hospitality. There are 186 medal events at the World Championships. It will include 101 men, 84 women and one mixed. This is 15 more events than the last championship in Kobe, Japan.
Prabha is a long jump and Himal shot put player. Prabha won a historic silver at the Delhi Grand Prix of the World Para Championship held in India last March. She won second place in women's long jump under T-47 category by jumping 3.96 meters. Prabha also came close to a medal in the 400m race. However, she finished fourth by a few seconds.
Malaysia's Noor Farhani, who was 4 seconds ahead, won the bronze. Born in Panchthar, 24-year-old Prabha was born without part of her right arm below the elbow. In the same Grand Prix, Himal also participated in men's shot put under the men's F-55 category. His performance was average. After being injured in an ambush during the conflict, his support became a wheelchair. He also plays wheelchair basketball at home.
Secretary of Para Athletics Association of Nepal Sangbu Bhote said that reaching the World Championship is a historic achievement for Nepali athletics para athletes. He said, "Nepalese para athletics players have got the opportunity to play in the World Championship for the first time, this is a great achievement for us, it has made the entire para athletics proud."
Both players are directly into the quota based on their performance at the Grand Prix. The 12th Grand Prix of the World Para Athletics (WPA) 2025 season started in Dubai. Prabha finished eighth in Dubai with a jump of 3.56m.

He said that the performance of Grand Prix and World Championship will be important for the new cycle of Los Angeles 2028 Para Olympics.
Prabha, who was attracted to para athletics by the performance of the first university sports competition, said that being selected for the World Championship is the result of her hard work. She vowed to prepare well for the World Championships and give a high performance. Asia has hosted this World Athletics Championship four times. Doha 2015 in Qatar, Dubai 2019 in United Arab Emirates and Kobe 2024 in Japan.
