Nepalgunj Night Run, the only 10 km distance held at night in Nepal, has officially joined the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIIMS) making its way to the world race stage.
This competition, which is organized every year on the night of October 3rd on the occasion of Constitution Day, has been started since last year. With this affiliation, Nepalgunj becomes the first city in Nepal, where two events recognized by AIIMS will be Dhara Nepalgunj Marathon and Nepalgunj Night Run. The route of Nepalgunj Marathon is considered to be the simplest in Nepal. After receiving AIIMS membership, these races will be listed in the AIIMS Global Calendar, contributing to the international recognition of the city.
Nepalgunj Marathon founder and AIIMS Nepal Representative TS Thakuri says, 'It helps in branding the city and keeps foreign participants updated.' Nepalgunj Marathon also conducts races like Kathmandu 25K Heritage Run, Karnali Half Marathon and Gaughat Green Run annually. According to
Thakuri, these races are also being gradually recognized by AIIMS. On the occasion of 'Kathmandu 25K Heritage Race' and 'Nepal International Running Conference' held in Kathmandu last month, AIIMS board meeting was also held. During the visit, AIIMS President and Spanish citizen Paco Borao also observed the route of Nepalgunj Marathon.
