Poland's Iga Swatic won the women's singles title at Wimbledon on Saturday, defeating her American opponent Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0. In winning Wimbledon for the first time, the 24-year-old was ruthless against Anisimova and spent just 57 minutes on court for the title.
Swatic became the first Polish player to win a Wimbledon singles title. Swatik was playing the final at the All England Club for the first time. Overall, this was his sixth Grand Slam title.
Today's victory was really unbelievable. To be honest, I couldn't even dream of winning like this. I think, no one can win the title of Wimbledon like this,' said Swatik expressing surprise.
She added, 'I think this time experience has also worked. I have the experience of winning Grand Slam before. However, such a victory is not expected in the final.'' This is the first time in the history of Wimbledon since 1911 that no player has won the final without losing any 'game'.
Since entering the finals of the Grand Slam, she has been a champion every time. All five of his previous Grand Slam titles have been on clay and hard courts. She won the first set in 25 minutes. The second set lasted a bit longer. Swatik added, "Despite the result of today's match, many congratulations to Amanda. It is certain, the rivalry between us will continue in the coming days.'
Swatik's further response was, 'This competition is special for me, so this victory was also special. The fun of playing on the central court is different. Anisimova, who is three months younger than the new Wimbledon champion, played with fear from the beginning of the match. Having won only 9 'points' in the entire game, she continued to make series of mistakes one after the other.
The spectators in the central court tried to help her to raise her game, but she could not control herself. Anisimova's performance was characterized by 28 unforced errors and five double faults. After the loss, she was naturally emotional and failed to control herself on the court. She cried and said, "Today's final was very memorable but I couldn't do anything."
'There is no part of me left to fight. I think maybe I could have played better. However, the last two weeks have been very exciting for me. Thank you to everyone who helped and supported me to make the journey to the finals. I would not have been able to reach this far without their help. My family has been an inspiration for me,' she added. The
men's final will be between Carlos Alcaraz and Janic Siner on Sunday. The world number one tennis player defeated 7-time winner Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on Friday. Earlier, Alcaraz defeated the fifth ranked Taylor Fritz.
