”Political parties come to the government, but they do not come to the government to do politics, they work in the same field, if they want to develop the game, they invest and advance the game, there is no place for politics.”
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced on Thursday evening that the Nepal Premier League (NPL) will continue by making two posts on Facebook in a short space of time. He wrote, "NPL should not be stopped." In another post, he wrote, "NPL is our national pride, make grand preparations."
NPL-1 was held last December. After the first edition, a complaint was filed with the Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission regarding its financial transparency.
A letter was sent from the authority to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Council (Rakhep) regarding the necessary action, which Rakhep has formed a task force to investigate.
Another investigation task force formed under the direction of sports minister Tejulal Choudhary, who is also the chairman of Rakhep, removed the previously formed task force and wrote a letter saying that 'until the investigation work is completed, no action related to NPL is to be taken.' Due to this letter, which was sent outside his jurisdiction, Sports Minister Choudhary was criticized from all sides.
Prime Minister Oli reached Satdobato on Thursday to inaugurate the National Sports Science and Research Center and the National Hyperperformance Center. It was there that he asked not to do more politics in the behavior of NPL.
Make grand preparations for NPL, NPL is our national pride. We must maintain this pride. As cricket is progressing at the national level, it will have to be emphasized more and made attractive. NPL should be played. I request that the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Council and Nepal Cricket Association pay attention to this," Oli said.
Arguing that politics should be done before going to government, Oli said, "Political parties come to government, but political parties do not do politics after coming to government." After coming to the government, he will work in the field in which there is work. If agriculture is to be developed, agriculture must be developed. If you want to develop the industry, you have to develop the industry. If we want to develop music and literature, we should work in that area. There is no politics there. If you want to develop the game, you have to invest in the game and advance the game. There is no politics there. There is no place for politics.'
Prime Minister Oli did not stop there. He went on to post more about NPL on social media as well. He also warned the ministry and the administration about the 10th National Games, which have been stopped time and time again. The National Games should be held in November, moving it now would be a matter of shame. There will be no forgiveness. That cannot happen. Time doesn't move anymore. National sports will be organized at the appointed time, Oli said.
