Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has described his team's trip to the Club World Cup final as a great achievement. Chelsea defeated Fluminez 2-0 on Wednesday to reach the final of the Club World Cup thanks to two goals scored by new signing Joo Pedro.
Pedro started for Chelsea for the first time. He took advantage of that and opened the account of the goal in the 18th minute. At the MetLife Stadium, the Brazilian striker added a second goal with an hour to go. Chelsea will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the title clash.
'Reaching the final is a really big achievement. "This season has been very good for us," said coach Maresca. He added, "We finished in the top four of the Premier League. We also won the conference league. Now we have reached the final of the Club World Cup.'
The 23-year-old player, who came to Chelsea from Brighton, only made his debut in the quarter-finals against Palmerias. The defeat brings to an end Fluminez's excellent run in the competition. The team edged out Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and Al-Hilal on their way to the semi-finals. With this, the challenge of the South American club in the tournament is also over.
