Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Poland's Iga Swatek reached the Wimbledon semi-finals on Wednesday.

Bencic defeated seventh-seeded Russian Mira Andreeva 7–6 (7/3), 7–6 (7/2) to reach the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time.

She said that her dream has come true. Less than a year after giving birth, former Olympic champion Bencic has put on an impressive performance at the All England Club. The 28-year-old gave birth to a daughter, Bella, in April 2024. But when she returned to the court after becoming a mother, she was ranked 35th in the world.

This year, Bencic edged Andreeva in a thrilling quarterfinal clash that lasted more than 2 hours on Center Court. Bencic, now world No. 4, will face five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swatek in Saturday's final.

This is unbelievable. My dream has come true. I didn't even try to think about it during the game. I am speechless,' said Bencic. Bencic's previous only Grand Slam trip to the semifinals was at the 2019 US Open. She won the singles gold at the Tokyo Olympics. She is the first Swiss woman to reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon since Martina Hingis in 27 years. She had failed to get past the last 16 in her previous 8 visits to London.

18-year-old Andreeva made the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2007, becoming the youngest female player since Nicole Vadisova. Lyudmila Samsonova was another player from Russia to be defeated. Poland's Swateks lost. The eighth-ranked Polish player has won four titles including the French Open in 2022 and the US Open. But the All England Club is struggling for a Grand Slam. His best result at Wimbledon is reaching the quarterfinals in 2023.

Swatek easily dominated the first set against 19th seed Samsonova on Court 1. She played a competitive game in the second set before winning in one hour and 49 minutes. "I feel very proud. I am very happy and proud of myself. We have to continue to move forward," Swatek said.
