Novak Djokovic has reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon tennis for the 16th time, beating Alex de Minaur. Serbia's Djokovic defeated Australia's Minaur 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday in a match witnessed by eight-time winner Roger Federer.
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic is on course for his 25th Grand Slam victory after losing the first set to 11th-ranked Minaur on Center Court. After achieving success at the All England Club, he will equal Federer's record of winning Wimbledon 8 times.
Swiss celebrity Federer, who has retired from active sports life, watched the match from the Royal Box, and Djokovic, who became his closest rival for a long time, had the toughest challenge in this tournament. Despite falling behind in the first set, the sixth seed also lost two breaks. He committed 16 unforced errors and four double faults in the first.
Djokovic broke at the beginning of the second set and won the set in 19 minutes. He then maintained his dominance and turned the game in his favor. Djokovic will play Italy's 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinals.
