Diego Jota, the Portuguese international player of the English champion Liverpool, died in a shocking accident on Thursday. Liverpool supporters hailed him as a better player than Luis Figo. Jota, 28, died along with his brother Andre in a car crash in North London.

After the accident, the vehicle they were traveling in caught fire. Jota, a product of the Pacos de Ferreira academy on the outskirts of Porto, rose to fame while playing in the English Premier League. Initially, Atletico Madrid recognized his talent and signed him in 2016. However, he never played for Atlético.

He then went to Porto on loan. He is one of the first Portuguese players to make an impact in the Premier League. He was linked with Wolves, who were in the second division at the time, due to his relationship with Jorge Mendes, who was considered a super agent. After spending three seasons in Wolves, with the help of Jota's play, Wolves became a team that reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League from the Championship League.

Because of that performance, he caught the eye of Liverpool. The club signed him from Wolves for $62 million. Liverpool bought him in 2020 during the corona virus epidemic. "A unique player, a unique personality," former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp praised Jota after arriving at Anfield, "he has all the qualities that a Liverpool team needs."

Since arriving at Liverpool, he has taken no time to prove his worth. He became the first player in club history to score in his first four games. His popularity increased even more after the audience started returning to the stadium after the end of the Corona epidemic. At that time, Liverpool supporters used to chant in his support that he was a better player than Luis Figo.

Figo played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona during his playing career. Was a key player in Liverpool winning the League Cup and FA Cup in 2021–22. At that time, Liverpool almost lost the opportunity to win the Premier League and Champions League titles. He played 182 games for Liverpool and scored 65 goals.

His last goal was in the Merseyside derby against Everton in April. After that match, Liverpool was close to a record 20th league title. But in the history of Liverpool, there has been another tragedy. It has lost its very best players. Jota also participated in the trophy parade held during the celebration of Liverpool winning the league. Following the news of Jota's death, supporters have left shirts, scarves and flowers at Anfield to pay their respects. It is the same place where a memorial has been built for the 97 people who died in the 1989 Hillsburg disaster.

His Portuguese teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, has also expressed his grief and disbelief in the death of Jota. He said, "There can be no reason for Jota's death. Heartfelt condolences on the passing of Diego and Andre. We have not forgotten them. Ronaldo and Jota, who won 49 caps for Portugal, won the Nations League last month.

Jota married his longtime girlfriend Rut Cardosa just two weeks ago. They have three children. Liverpool have called Jota's death an unimaginable loss.
