Serbian Novak Djokovic on Thursday defeated British wildcard Dan Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the third round of Wimbledon and strengthen his claim for a record 25th Grand Slam.

It took Djokovic just one hour and 47 minutes to defeat Evans on Center Court. Sixth-seeded Djokovic struggled with a stomach problem in his previous match against Alexandre Muller in a four-set win. He had to take medicine for that. Djokovic considered it a 'miracle pill'.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic said, 'I'm enjoying it. This court has given me a lot. Wimbledon has a special place in my heart. Any history made here is special.''Djokovic won the 99th Wimbledon match. Djokovic dreams of ending his career as the most successful player in tennis history. The 38-year-old has not won a Grand Slam since winning the 2023 US Open. That was his 24th Grand Slam title. She is tied with Margaret Court for 24 Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic, who has lost the last two Wimbledon finals to Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, is in the mood to make history this year. He says, 'I know about history. I'm thinking about all the great things I can do in this tournament.

The previous day, defending champion Alcaraz continued his adventurous trip to Wimbledon by defeating British amateur Oliver Tarvet in straight sets and advanced to the third round.

This time, the exit of the top ranked players in the first round in the All England Club is at a rapid pace. Eight of the top 10 players in men's and women's singles have lost in the first round, the most at a Grand Slam.

Alcaraz and women's world number one Aryana Sabalenka survived a second-round shock on Center Court. Alcaraz World No. 424? It took 2 hours and 17 minutes to defeat the 10th ranked Tarvet. Alcaraz said of emerging talent Tarvet, "First of all, I have a lot of respect for Oliver. To be honest, I liked his game. I knew I had to play great tennis. I'm happy with my performance and he has a lot of praise.

Alcaraz has won his last 20 matches at Wimbledon, which is his best performance. It has won him the Rome Masters, French Open and Queen's Club titles.

The 22-year-old, who beat Yannick Sinner in the final at Roland Garros last month, has won 31 of his 34 tour-level matches on grass. His last loss at Wimbledon was to Sinner in the fourth round in 2022.

Alcaraz, the second seed, is in the race to become the fifth player to win Wimbledon three times in a row, after Vion Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and seven-time champion Novak Djokovic. The 21-year-old Tarvet, a University of San Diego student, was playing Alcaraz in the main draw after defeating Leandro Reidy in the first round. "It was really special. Not everyone gets to play against the best players in the world. "I tried to enjoy the moment and play some good tennis," Tarvet said.

Italian Jasmine Paulini, last year's runner-up in the women's top exit list. Last year's runner-up, she fell victim to Russian player Kamila Rakhimova late on Wednesday. Twelve months after reaching the All England Club final, Paulini exited the grass-court Grand Slam in the first round.

Four of the top 5 seeded players in women's singles have been eliminated within three days of the tournament. Second-seeded Coco Gough, third-seeded Jessica Pegula and fifth-seeded Zheng Qinwen all lost in the first round. Paulini, seeded fourth, was eliminated in the second match. Serbian Sabalenka is the only remaining top five ranked player. She won the second match against Czech Republic's Marie Bouzkova.

Paulini, who was defeated by Barbora Krejcikova in the 2024 Wimbledon final, competed on Court 3 for 2 hours and 18 minutes and was defeated by the Russian opponent 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. "It was a tough game," Paulini said. I'm still thinking about the second set. I could have done so much better. There were many opportunities, but I made some mistakes myself.

After reaching the French Open and Wimbledon finals last year, Paulini has failed to reach the quarterfinals of the last four Grand Slams. However, she won the French Open doubles title.
