Top-ranked Yannick Sinner entered the second round of Wimbledon tennis on Tuesday, while third-ranked American Jessica Pegula lost in the first match on the women's side.

Sinner defeated Luca Nardi in straight sets on Tuesday in the Italian derby competition. Unfazed by the extreme heat, Sinner won 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 on Court One.

He spent 1 hour and 48 minutes to defeat Nardi of his own country. Sinner said that the All England Club is a special place for him and he is happy to be back here. In the beginning, he considered it unfortunate to play with the Italians, but he finally had to go through it.

On the women's side, Jessica described her straight-set loss to Italy's Elisabetta Cosciaretto as her worst result of the year. Elisabetta, ranked world number 116 on Court 2, defeated Jessica 6-2, 6-3 within 58 minutes. The loss was a huge blow for Jessica, who played in the 2024 US Open final.

Jessica, a 31-year-old athlete, came down with tape on her right knee. "She played incredible tennis. "I think I didn't play my best, I didn't play that bad, but he had his day," Pegula said.

After losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the US Open, world number three Pegula has been eliminated before the quarterfinals in all three Grand Slams she has played since.

Chinese Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen's Wimbledon journey has ended early. Chinese Olympic champion Zheng lost to world number 81 Katerina Siniakova on Tuesday.

Zheng has been eliminated from the first round for the third year in a row. She lost to Katerina of the Czech Republic 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in two hours and 25 minutes on Court 3. Zheng's sixth Grand Slam appearance was the fourth time she failed to reach the third round. She stopped in the quarterfinals of last year's US Open and this year's French Open.

Zheng was beaten by Donna Vecic when she won Olympic gold on clay courts in Paris. The 22-year-old, who finished sixth, did not fare well on the grass courts in London. The Chinese star has never made it past the third round in four visits to the All England Club.

Wimbledon's defending champion Barbora Krejcikova of Czech Republic defeated Philippine star Alexandra Ila. After losing the first set, she came back on the center court and won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Krejcikova has had a tough time since losing to Italy's Jasmine Paolini in the final last year. Krejcikova, 29, was sidelined until May after suffering a back injury. She lost in the second round of the French Open. He has played only 6 games this year.

She pulled out of the Eastbourne Open before the quarterfinals last week with a thigh problem. "I had a lot of pain in my back and I didn't know what my career would be like," Krejcikova said, "I am very happy and excited to win here and to play on such a good court."
