The games for the 'Asian Games-2026' (Asiad) have been registered at the last minute amid the conflict between the government and the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC).

The last day to register games for Asiad to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan was until Monday (June 30). Nepal's participation became confused due to the heated conflict between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council and the NOC.

The NOC has been stating that the registration of the participating games should be completed by June 30 and otherwise the players will not be able to participate. Participation of Nepalese athletes in all international competitions organized by International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia is done through NOC.

After the NOC elections held last December, a bitter situation has arisen between the three main bodies of Nepali sports. The government has not given legitimacy to the election. Because of that, the ministry and the council have called the operation of NOC illegal and locked the NOC headquarters in Satdobato.

The case regarding the election of the Olympic Committee is pending in the Patan High Court. But the election of NOC has been recognized by the IOC.

Although the official letter from the National Sports Council has not been sent to the NOC, the National Sports Associations have written to the NOC to register for the Asian Games. According to NOC sources, nearly 30 games have been registered till late on Monday. It is said that a letter is coming for registration with the signature of the president and general secretary of the association.

Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Choudhary claimed that the registration of games in the Asian Games was delayed due to the Nepal Olympic Committee. Chowdhury said that some problems have arisen due to the politicization of NOC president Jeevanram Shrestha.

'Just today I got the information that the game is not registered . There is no weakness on the part of the Ministry of Sports,' he said, 'The problem has only arisen because of the illegal Olympic Committee.' Minister Chaudhary said that if the NOC does not register the match list by 12 midnight on Monday, the ministry itself will find a suitable way. The Ministry is trying to contact the Olympic Committee. On behalf of the government, we are looking for all measures,' he said, 'Nepali athletes are not deprived from Asian sports, we register the sports played by Nepal.'

National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanklal Ghising also informed that all sports have been given verbal instructions to participate in the registration for the Asian Games in their own way. He said, "Since the board meeting of the council was not held, it did not matter which sport would participate in Asiad and which would not." This is a long list, the government will decide which sports will participate later. Now I have verbally asked everyone to register .'
