Rajukaji Shakya, the former captain of the Nepali National Football Team and Aruna Shahi, the current captain of the Nepali National Women's Volleyball Team, have been honored with this year's SCSMF Sportsmen's Award.
Sharad Chandra Shah Memorial Foundation (SCSMF) on Friday, as a tribute to the old and new generation, Rajukaji and Aruna were honored with cash. President of
foundation Renu Shah gave them 250,000 with the award.
foundation has been giving this award to one old and one new player who have contributed to Nepali sports since last year. In the first year, record marathon runner Vaikunth Manandhar and Karate's Erica Gurung were honored.
Rajukaji has won South Asian Games (SAG) football gold medals as a player, captain and coach. He said that this inspired him to do something more for the nation.
Nepali women's volleyball has achieved great success under Aruna's captaincy. Under his captaincy, Nepal won the AVC Asian Women's Central Zone Volleyball title. In the 13th tournament, Nepal won the silver medal under his captaincy. Aruna said that this kind of honor will give more motivation to young generation athletes to take up sports.
