The winners of Mangaladevi Singh Smriti 2nd Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament were awarded on Friday.
Purushottam Silwal won the title in the competition organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City-27 at Annapurna Secondary School. He won a prize of Rs 25,000 with an excellent performance of 8.5 marks. He had 8 wins and 1 draw out of 9 matches.
Kshitij Bhandari was second with 8 points and Prakashchandra Nepal was third with 7 points. They received 20,000 and 15,000 respectively. Dhiren Rai got 7 points, Suroj Maharjan got 7 points and Shailendra Neupane got 6 and a half points. He finished fourth to sixth. They got 5 thousand each. Janardan Shrestha, Kamal Shrestha, Rajan Subedi, Ashish Phuyal were ranked seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth respectively and got 4,000 each.
Riya Shrestha was the winner on the women's side. She won 10,000. Shanti Dhimal was second and Yajashwi Shrestha was third. They got 7500 and 5000 respectively.
CM Naveen Tandukar won for veteran over 55 years. Hardik Pant, Prem Khadka and Sandesh Shrestha were the best in their ratings, while Sankhuka Poornarayan Awale, Under 12 Arnav Aryal, Under 10 Agartha Acharya and Kumar Maharjan got the award for disciplined player. New players had the opportunity to compete with experienced players in the
competition. The winners were awarded by Srijan Singh, president of Mangaladevi Foundation, Yogesh Kumar Khadgi, ward president of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-27 and Chandra Prakash Rajbhandari, principal of Atithi Annapurna Secondary School.
