Former Leverkusen coach Xavi Alonso called him the best in world football. Former Liverpool player Xavi recently left Leverkusen and went to Real Madrid.  Witterz  He said for Liverpool's website, "I want to win everything."

Witterz, 22, played a key role as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club's history in 2023–24. Under Alonso, Leverkusen did not lose a single game in the league that season. That season, Leverkusen only lost to Atalanta in the Europa League final. Witterz was named the best player of the year in the Bundesliga.
