Pro golfer Ravi Khadka took the lead on the first day of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship on Monday.
With a score of 5 under 67, Ravi is 1 stroke behind defending champion Subas Tamang. Subas finished second with a score of 4-under 68. In the result of 3 under 69, two amateurs Nimdorjee Tamang and Rahul Vishwakarma from Bhutan and pro golfers Bhuvan Nagarkoti and Dhan Bahadur Thapa took joint third place.
Neeraj Tamang and Bishnu Prasad Sharma who scored 2 under 70 are joint seventh. Deepak Magar, Ramakrishna Shrestha and amateur Wangchen Dhondup who scored 1 under 71 took ninth place. Former number one golfer Ravi shot four consecutive birdies from the sixth to the ninth hole and finished the front nine at 4 under 32. He saved 1-1 shots on the 12th and 17th holes on the back nine. A birdie on the 13th hole finished the back nine at 1-under 35.
Subas shot a birdie on the sixth hole after completing the front nine in 1 over 37. He wasted a shot on the fifth and seventh hole, but he performed excellently on the back nine. He birdied the 10th, 12th and 16th holes while playing the bogey-free back nine. Eagle's success on the par 5 15th hole.
Bhutanese Nim Dorjee and Nepal's Rahul were leading the way for the amateurs. Dorjee hit eagles on the third and seventh holes. He saved a putt on the sixth hole. After bogeying the first and eighth holes, he finished the front nine at 3-under 33. He birdied the 11th and 14th holes and bogeyed the 15th and 18th holes and played an even par 36 on the back nine.
Rahul finished the front nine at 1 under 35 and the back nine at 2 under 34. He hit 5 birdies and two bogeys. Wangchen, who scored 1-under 71, wasted four shots on the seventh hole. He shot six birdies and faced one bogey.
In the four-day tournament organized by the Nepal Professional Golfers Association, 37 professional golfers will compete for the highest prize money of 1.6 lakh rupees so far. The
winner will receive 3 lakhs along with the title. The second player will get Rs 185,000, the third will get Rs 125,000, the fourth will get Rs 15,000 and the fifth will get Rs 92,000. All the top 21 players will be eligible for cash prizes. 18 amateur players are also competing. This is Surya Nepal's last tournament of this season.
