German qualifier Tatjana Maria was declared the 'Queens of Queens' after winning the Wimbledon warm-up tournament at the Queen's Club as the biggest title of her career.
The 37-year-old mother-of-two defeated eighth-seeded American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Clean Club Grass Court Tennis Championship in London. Maria, ranked 86th, won the title with her daughters Charlotte and Cecilia in front of her husband and coach Charles-Edouard Maria.
"Winning this title means a lot to me," said Maria, "I'm a good example that even at this age you can still win big trophies, I'm very proud of myself." After 2020, she became the oldest singles champion on the WTA Tour. At that time, Serena Williams won the Auckland Classic at the age of 38.
She won the WTA title on grass court in Mallorca in 2018 and won twice on hard court in Bogota in 2022 and 2023. Maria, who reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon, will move up to number 43 in the world rankings on Monday.
