Welcome to the medal winning bodybuilding team

Athletes who won 1 gold and 3 silver medals in the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding Competition held in Thimphu, Bhutan returned home on Sunday.

Three male and two female players from Nepal participated in the tournament which was held on May 31. Urmila Shrestha won gold in women's athletic physique. Sheela Thakuri won silver in the same event.

Sharad Suwal won silver in men's 55 kg weight group, Avtar Shrestha won silver in men's sports physique under 175 cm. Pranish Shrestha went without a medal in Men's Sports Physique 175 cm. He finished fifth.

They were welcomed by the National Sports Council (Rakhep) on Sunday. Rakhep member-secretary Tanklal Ghising, Rakhep executive committee member Kamal Bahadur Bhattarai and others welcomed the team and congratulated them. Before that, the medal winners were given a grand welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport by officials, players, coaches and family members along with the first vice president of the Nepal Physical Education and Fitness Federation Vijaylal Kayastha.

Member-Secretary Ghising said that bodybuilding players have established the name of the country in the field of bodybuilding by winning medals at the international level and said that this will attract the young generation towards this sport.

Kayastha, the vice-president of the Physical Fitness Federation, reminded that in every international competition, physical fitness has been winning medals for the nation.

Physical fitness secretary Dinesh Rajbhandari, who went to Bhutan as an official, informed that there was a discussion in Bhutan about organizing the world physical fitness championship in Nepal in 2027.
