Kathmandu District Wide Sports organized by Ward 26 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City is going to start on Saturday.

Pravesh Shrestha, the coordinator and member of Ward 26, informed in a press conference on Friday that 5 sports will be contested in the tournament, namely Futsal, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Karate and Kyokushin Karate.

Futsal will be played only for men. The winner will receive 150,000 and the runner-up will receive 75,000. 10,000 will be given to the 3 best players in the category. Table tennis consists of 8 events. The total prize money is 1 lakh 60 thousand rupees.

Taekwondo will be contested in 10-10 categories in men/women. The first team will receive 75,000, the second 50,000 and the third 25,000. The best male/female player will also get 10,000. Prizes of 4,000, 3,000 and 2,000 will be awarded respectively to the winners of each competition.

Kurate will be played in women's single kata and women's team kumet. The top 3 finishers in singles will win 30,000, 15,000 and 5,000 respectively. In team kumite, the winner will receive 50,000, the second 25,000 and the third 10,000 each. In Kyokushin Karate, men will compete in 5 categories. The top four will get 10,000, 8,000, 6,000 and 5,000 respectively. The total prize money is 11 lakh 90 thousand rupees.

Futsal Lainchour ground and the remaining four matches will also be played at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lainchour. According to the organizers, about 2,000 players from all 32 wards and 10 municipalities of Kathmandu Metropolitan City will participate in the competition. Shyamraj Tiwari, Chairman of Organizing Ward 26, said that it will cost about 6.5 lakhs to run the

competition, of which 3.5 lakhs will be borne by the organizing ward. Organizers said that the insufficient funds will be collected from various organizations.

Chairman Tiwari expressed his belief that there will be enthusiastic participation in the wide sports, saying that it will be easy to organize the competition as there is infrastructure for all sports in his ward. A coordinator has also been appointed for all five

games. Gaurav Rajak in Taekwondo, Ram Bahadur Rajak in Futsal, Biplav Thapa in Kyokushin Karate, Santosh Shrestha in Karate and Suraj KC in Table Tennis have been given the responsibility of coordinator. Table tennis will be held on Saturday, the first day of the comprehensive sports which will last until June 8.
