Lumbini Pradesh's Rahul Tharu broke the 27-year-old javelin throw record at the Dasharath Stadium on Thursday. He set a record in the 15th Central President's Running Games with a throw of 57.44 meters.
Rahul broke the record of 55.50 meters set by Dhirendrajung Shah in 2055. Happy with the junior record, Rahul's next goal is to break the senior national record. He said, "I was aiming to set a record this year, and I succeeded." Last year, he returned home after finishing second in this competition.
It has been four years since Rahul of Kapilvastu Chandrauta started enjoying javelin. Studying in class 11 in Nepal Adarsh Mavi, he gets used to javelin in the village ground in the evening. Javelin throw has a national record of 70.39m for seniors. This record was made by Khursid Ahmed Khan in 1999 in the 8th SAFF held in Nepal. Rahul says, 'Setting national records is cheating.' In athletics, junior national records were set in four events, including the javelin throw, on Thursday. Six records have been set in athletics till the second day.
Narayani Bhandari of Gandaki set a record by completing the girls' 800m race in 2 minutes 17.9 seconds. Narayani broke the record of 2 minutes 28.5 seconds set by Sarita Khadka in 2081. Bhagwati Khadka of Bagmati came second and Sangeeta Bick of Far West came third.
Bagmati's team of Praveen Ranamgar, Neeraj Tharu, Hasta Sunar and Sant Bahadur Darai won a record gold in the students' 4x400m relay. The team completed the prescribed distance in 3 minutes 30.9 seconds. Earlier, the record of 3 minutes 31.0 seconds was held by the team of Chandra Bohra, Amit, Kavir Bik and Sukvir. It was built in 2080. Gandaki came second and Lumbini third.
The team of Dina Gopali, Anisha Tharu, Bhagwati Khadka and Asmita Bhujel from Bagmati has set a record in the women's relay. The team took 4 minutes 12.8 seconds to cover the prescribed distance. The record of 4 minutes 17.2 seconds was held by Bhavna Farsal, Sarita Khadka, Himali Shahi and Krishna Rana. They made a record in Lumbini in the year 2081.
Pooja Saud of Sudhurpaschim won the gold in the female javelin throw. Pooja threw 30.32 meters. Urmila Rai of Koshi won the silver and Srishan Shrestha of Bagmati won the bronze. Vikram Bishta of Sudurpaschim won gold, Dhirendra Bik of Karnali won silver and Ayush Tharu of Lumbini won bronze in the students' 800m race. In long jump, Pradeep Mahato of Gandaki and Anisha Tharu of Bagmati won gold in female category.
