Nepal's young player CM Purushottam Silwal has won the second place in The Western Asian Junior Blitz Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka.
59 players from 9 countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the tournament.
Eighth ranked 2130 rated candidate Master Purushottam defeated the tournament's top player 2379 highly rated international master Mayank Chakraborty of India in the fast-paced blitz chess. 2120 rated FM Abu Khakimov Akbarli from Uzbekistan won the first place by adding 6 points and progressive 25.5 points.
Purushottam lost one game to 2142 rated IM Manun Rezanir of Bangladesh in the competition and won the best in 6 games, adding 6 points 24.5 progressive points in seven rounds and took the second place.
Indian IM Mayank Chakraborty, who lost to Purushottam in the tournament organized by the Sri Lankan Chess Federation under the auspices of the World Intelligence Federation and the Asian Chess Federation, finished third.
Earlier, Rupesh Jaishwal won second place in rapid and third place in blitz in Singapore in the great success of Nepal in FIDE's official international intelligence competition. Krishna Thapa won the first place in the Asian Amateur Championship held in Nepal.
CM Purushottam left the Asian Junior Rapid Championship to participate in the National Youth Championship to be held in Nepal from Thursday and returned home on Wednesday. He was received at Tribhuvan Airport by Tara Bahadur Ranabhat, Treasurer of the Federation.
