Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has said Monday's World Cup qualifier against Moldova will be his last.

Coach Spalletti was heavily criticized after Italy lost 3-0 to Norway in the World Cup qualifiers last week. Italian football is haunted by the fear of not qualifying for the third consecutive World Cup.

He told the media, "I have spoken to the president of the Italian Football Association and I have been told to remove him from the position of coach of the Italian national football team." After Roberto Mancini left in 2023, the 66-year-old Spalletti took over the position of coach. As the coach of Italy, he has won 11 times and 6 matches have ended in a draw.

Italy has been defeated in 6 matches. "I'm definitely not happy," Spalletti added. I have no intention of leaving the team. Whenever the team is not doing well, it is okay that I am in the team. But now the team is not performing well and I have to accept this fact. I think this position of coach is also a service to the country. Everyone's attention should be on the best performance of the team.'
