Despite Sompal Kami and Dipendrasingh Airey sharing a century partnership, Nepal was prevented from getting a sensational victory over Scotland in the World Cup Cricket League-2 on Sunday. After these two shared 150 runs in 65 balls, Scotland defeated Nepal by 2 runs at Dundee's Fort Hill.
Chasing a target of 324 runs, Nepal needed 7 runs in the last over. But after the local Y Safyan Sharif dismissed both Karan KC and Lalit Rajvanshi, Nepal completed the entire 50 overs for 321 runs.
Nepal's pursuit of the biggest run in ODIs has come close to victory. Only on Monday, Nepal achieved a 1-wicket win over Scotland chasing a target of 297 runs, which was the record for winning by chasing the biggest target.
Dipendra and Sompal both completed half-centuries. Dipendra played 56 with 2 fours in 51 balls and Sompal scored 67 runs in 44 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. This is also Sompal's highest score in ODIs. Karan got out after scoring 17 runs in 10 balls. He hit 1 four and 1 six .
opener Kushal Bhurtel scored 17 runs in 20 balls and was run out after failing to match Asif Shaikh. Asif also scored 8 runs and got bowled after taking an inside edge. Captain Rohit Paudel scored only 3 runs and was caught at first slip. 
Bhim Sarki scored the highest 73 runs from Nepal. This is his fourth fifty in ODIs. He played 85 balls and hit 8 boundaries. Bhim and Arif shared 94 runs in 110 balls for the fourth wicket. Arif was dismissed for 39 runs after playing 55 balls and hitting 5 fours. Gulshan Jha hit a six and was dismissed for 11 runs in 13 balls.
Earlier, after captain Richie Berrington scored 1 hundred and 2 runs, Scotland won the toss and chose to bat. After playing the scheduled 50 overs, Scotland scored 3 hundred and 23 runs losing 6 wickets . After Barrington scored his sixth century in one-day internationals, Scotland managed to challenge Nepal.
Barrington, who avoided getting out LBW in the first ball he faced, hit 6 fours and 4 sixes in a 114-ball innings . He was run out trying to get the third run off Michael Lisk.
Karan KC gave Nepal a great start by dismissing opener George Muncie for zero and Brandon McMullen for 5 runs within 6 overs. Then Barrington and Charlie Tier shared an important partnership of 94 runs in 127 balls for the third wicket . Opener Tier made his second consecutive half-century against Nepal.
Tier, who scored 80 runs in the first match against Nepal in this series, added 68 runs playing 65 balls. He hit a total of 9 fours . Lalit Rajvanshi bowled Tier to break this partnership . Finley McCreath, who scored a half-century in the last two matches, scored 17 runs and was cut and bowled by Deepandra Singh Airy. Dipendra immediately dismissed Mathew Cross for 17 runs and strengthened Nepal's grip on the game.
But then Barrington shared a solid partnership of 125 runs in 93 balls for the sixth wicket with Lisk . The catch left by Sompal Kami in Lisk's 14 runs off the ball of Sandeep Lamichhane cost Nepal very dearly. Lisk remained unbeaten on 96 off 62 balls. He hit 12 fours and 3 fours .
Mark Watt, who hit Karan three consecutive sixes in the last over, remained unbeaten on 21 runs off 9 balls. Scotland scored 67 runs in the last 5 overs and lost 1 wicket in the last 10 overs to score 123 runs. Karan, who spent 19 runs with 2 maidens in the spell of opening 5 overs, took 2 wickets with 74 runs in 9 overs. Sompal scored 75 runs in 9 overs and Sandeep scored 69 runs in 10 overs. Dipendra took 2 wickets by spending 37 runs in 7 overs and Lalit took 1 wicket by spending 41 runs in 10 overs.
After winning the first 2 games, Nepal will play against the Netherlands on Tuesday and end the journey of this League-2. Scotland won their second in 3 matches.
