Dang became the champion in Lumbini state level 15th President Running Shield Competition-2081. In the competition held at Beljhundi Stadium in Dang, Dang became the champion after defeating three-time undefeated Banke.
In the competition held from May 23 to 25, Dang succeeded to become the champion with 16 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze. Rupandehi got the second place in the running shield which was completed late on Sunday. Rupandehi won 13 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze medals. Banke, the previous winner, came third this year. Banke won 12 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze medals while Kapilvastu finished fourth. Kapilvastu won 9 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Bardia who was fifth won 6 gold, 5 silver and 25 bronze medals while Nawalparasi became sixth. Navalparasi won 6 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze medals. Palpa managed to win 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals by placing seventh. Rukum East finished eighth with 2 golds and 2 bronzes. Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi and Gulmi remained goldless.
Dang won gold in athletics 800m, 400m, 1500m, shot put, triple jump, usu throw, lunges 42, 45 and 48 kg weight group, karate single kata, 40 and 45 kg, taekwondo single poomse, 48 and 59 kg weight group.
Pratibha Chaudhary of Ruppandehi for girls volleyball, Aarushi Bhattarai of Banke for girls in athletics, Shubham Bamrel of Ruppandehi for boys, Khushi Ghartimar of Bardiya for girls in kabaddi and Kshitij Gayre of Ruppandehi for boys were declared the best players. More than 1,300 players from all 11 districts except Rolpa participated in the competition, said Thirandaj Gautam, Member-Secretary of Lumbini Province Sports Council. Students studying up to class 12 or below 18 years of age participated in the
competition. He was selected in the district through the local municipality and competed in the state level competition.
The best players of the state will participate in the tournament to be held at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu from June 28 to 30.
The matches of the tournament which was inaugurated at Beljhundi Stadium were held at different places in Tulsipur. Athletics was held at Beljhundi Stadium. Usu and Karate were played at Omshanti Skate Park, Taekwondo Pradesh Taekwondo Hall Krishna Mandir, Kabaddi Competition at Sanskar Pathshala, Volleyball Competition at Arani Ground.
