324 athletes from three districts have been disqualified from competing in the 15th President's Running Shield Koshi Regional Qualifying Tournament starting today in Biratnagar. Sunsari, Khotang and Solukhumbu districts did not participate in the qualifying tournament organized by the Koshi Province Sports Development Board and in coordination with the National Sports Council (Rakhep) in Biratnagar from this afternoon.
Sports Development Board has informed that players and coaches from remaining 11 districts of Koshi have reached Biratnagar. It is said that Sunsari, Khotang and Solukhumbu could not participate because they could not make the district level selection in time. Even after being selected from the local level, the players were deprived because they could not be selected for the district.
According to Sunsari District Sports Development Committee President Deepak Rai, the Provincial Sports Development Board had sent a letter on May 20 and asked them to participate in the provincial selection to be held in Biratnagar from the 24th. Rai said, "A letter was sent a day ago and it was asked to select the district within two days. How is it possible in such a short time?" Rai complained that the preparation expenses were not sent on time.
The State Sports Development Board has provided 5 lakh rupees for selection to districts with more than 10 local levels. But the said amount was sent by the board only yesterday. Rai said that the sportsmen of three districts were deprived of playing the selection due to delay in sending the preparation expenses by not coordinating in time.
Parashuram Basnet, Member Secretary of the State Sports Development Board, said that the National Sports Council had to make the selection in a hurry because it was decided late that the competition would be held by the National Sports Council. Basnet said, "After the postponement of the 10th national sports competition, the member secretaries of all the seven provinces said that the presidential running shield competition should be held as an alternative, but there was not enough time to prepare for it."
The President's Running Shield, which is considered as the biggest festival of school sports, has competitions in 6 categories, including athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo and usu. These competitions are started through selection from the local level and the local level spends a lot of money for that. There is a decisive competition at the central level after selecting the provinces from the local level.
