Sadbhav is the first time amateur open champion

Amateur golfer Sadbhav Acharya has won the title of 11th Nepal Amateur Open Golf Championship with a record score. Number one golfer Sadabhav beat Rahul Vishwakarma by a wide margin of 10 strokes to win this championship for the first time.

Sadabhav played a 2-under 70 at the Gokarna Golf Club on Thursday to post an overall score of 20-under 196. He also broke the 18-under record of 54 holes. He won double gold in the competition. Team won the gold along with Rahul. He broke the Gokarna Golf Club course record by shooting 12 under 60 on the second day. 

Nepal's Rahul and India's Sumit Kotwal scored equal 10-under 206. Rahul came second and Sumit third on countback. Rahul, who won 1 gold and 1 silver, shot a superb score of 4 under 68 on Thursday. Sumit played an even-par 72. 

Sadbhav, who started the day with an 8-stroke lead, birdied the first and ninth holes. But bogeys on the second, fifth and sixth holes finished the front nine at 1-over 37. He got three birdies on the back nine. He saved shots on the 10th, 14th and 15th holes to finish the back nine at 3-under 33.

Rahul finished the front nine at even par 36 with a bogey on the sixth hole against a birdie on the third hole. Rahul finished second with a birdie on the 4th hole on the back nine. He made three consecutive birdies on the 11th to 13th holes and a birdie on the 15th hole. He finished second on the countback after finishing 4 under 32 on the back nine. 

Sumit started the match with a bogey. He then saved shots on the third, fourth and ninth holes to finish the front nine at 2-under 34. He birdied the 12th hole and wasted a shot on the 13th hole. A double bogey on the final hole finished the backnine in 2-over 38.

India's Ananthi Vivek won the title with an even-par 216 overall. She defeated her countryman Diya Kris Kumar by 19 strokes. Ananthi, who was third in the last edition, won the title this year. She shot a 3 over 75 on Thursday. 

With an overall score of 19 over 235, Dia finished second. She shot an 8 over 80 today. Tara Karki Chitrakar from Nepal came third. She scored 254 overall. 

India's Vivan Ubhaykar won the U-16 title. He shot a 1-under 215 overall after shooting a 2-under 70 on Thursday. He beat his teammate Prince Bainsla by 6 strokes. Vivan finished the front nine at 2-under 34 and the back nine at even-par 36.

Prince shot an even-par 72 on Thursday and scored a 5-over 221 overall. Nepal's Ruben Thapa was third overall with 13 over 290. He shot a 4 over 76 on the final day. On countback, Ruben beat India's Angbhay Bagla.

Nepal 'A' Sadbhav and Rahul won the team gold with a score of 24 under 264 at the end of 36 holes. Nepal 'A' beat Bhutan by 24 strokes with a score of 16 under 128. The Bhutanese team of Nim Dorjee Tamang and Dechen Lendup finished second on countback. After Bhutan and Bangladesh tied at even-par 288, the result came on count back. The Bangladesh team comprising of Sofikul Islam and Mohammad Sahab Uddin won the bronze.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanklal Ghising, Nepal Golf Association President Tasi Ghale awarded the winning players. In the three-day 54-hole competition, 57 players from 5 countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and India from South Asia participated. The tournament is recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
