The National Sports Council (Rakhep) is going to hold the U-14 National School Sports Tournament from Sunday. According to Rakhep, school sports are organized with the aim of providing an opportunity to the talented athletes of the school level to compete at the national level.

Council Member-Secretary Tanklal Ghising said at a press conference on Friday that 476 players from seven provinces will participate in the tournament. Those players will participate in the National Games after passing the district/province selection stage.

Athletics, table tennis, three by three basketball, rugby sevens, badminton and student cricket will be contested. There will be 6-6 male/female athletics and 2-2 female male/female table tennis and badminton. Cricket will be 20 overs in Twenty20 structure.

Nepalaya Event Management Pvt. Ltd. co-organized and main sponsor of Expert Education Visa Services will compete for 83 medals including 25 gold medals in the competition. Athletics and Rugby will be played at Dasharath Rangshala at Tripureshwar, Table Tennis at National Table Tennis Training Center at Lanchaur, Basketball at Rakhep Hata, Badminton at Badminton Academy at Budhanilkanth and Cricket at Moolpani Maidan. Cricket will be conducted from May 25 to 29. The remaining 5 matches will be played on May 25 and 26.

Member-Secretary Ghisingh said that although it is often heard that the foundation of sports is grassroots, it is not so applicable in practice, so Rakhep has introduced the concept of junior competition.    Khem Sangraula of the expert said that his organization has been associated with sports for a long time as sports are an important field in making people disciplined and healthy.

The President of Nepalaya, Subash Chandra Pradhan, said that they have collaborated with Rakhep for the junior competition under the Public-Private Partnership. Rajkumar Karki, Secretary General of the Nepal School Sports Federation, said that the junior competition has been moved forward in collaboration with Rakhep, Pabson, NPabson and Teachers Federation.
