Tarakeshwar Municipality honored Erika Gurung with cash on Wednesday, who won a historic bronze medal in the Karate One Premier League.

Tarakeshwar Municipal Mayor Krishnahari Maharjan, Deputy Chief Shrijan Burlakoti Aryal and Administrative Chief Ishwari Prasad Acharya honored Erica with certificates and cash.

In the women's over 68 kg weight group of the competition held in Rabat, Morocco, Erica won the bronze by defeating French player Clement Pye by 6-2 points. This is the first medal won by a Nepali karate player in the Premier League.

A jump in the WKF ranking

With this success, Erica has climbed 23 places in the ranking of the World Karate Federation. In the new rankings released by the federation, Erica has come in 27th place in her weight group. Before playing in the Premier League, she was ranked 50th.

The Karate One Premier League is a tournament where the top 32 players in the world in their weight group will play.
