Nepal Amateur Open Golf: Nepal 'A' winner with good course record

With Nepal's amateur golfer Sadbhava Acharya's course record, Nepal 'A' has won gold in the team category of the 11th Nepal Amateur Open Golf Championship. In the team, Sadbhav and Rahul Vishwakarma won the gold with a score of 24 under 264 at the end of 36 holes.

At the Gokarna Golf Club on Wednesday, Sadabhav set the course record with an incredible score of 12 under 60. Rahul scored a 4 under 68 on Wednesday. Nepal 'A' scored 16 under 128 and defeated Bhutan by a wide margin of 24 strokes.

The Bhutanese team of Nimdorjee Tamang and Dechen Lendup finished second on countback. After Bhutan and Bangladesh tied at even par 288, the result was decided on count back. The Bangladesh team consisting of Safikul Islam and Mohammad Sahab Uddin won the bronze.

On the second day, in the individual competition, Sadbhav managed to remain at the top. With an overall score of 18 under 126 at the end of 36 holes, Sadbhav trailed India's Sumit Kotwal by 8 strokes.

Sadbhav broke the record of 11 under 61 held by professional golfer Shukra Bahadur Rai with a score of 12 under 60. Shukra made this record in 2023 Surya Nepal Central Open. Sadbhav hit 12 birdies while setting a

course record.  Scored 6 under 30 on both the front and back nine. Sadabhav started the second day with a birdie on the first hole. After this, he achieved 4 consecutive birdies in the third to sixth hole and another birdie in the ninth hole.

Saved par on the 16th and 17th holes. Sadbhava managed to set a course record with a birdie on the 18th hole. This score is the best performance of his career. He won the Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship last year. Scored 8 under 64.

Sumit, who rose to second place, scored an overall score of 10 under 134. He shot an 8-under 64 on Wednesday. Rahul Vishwakarma is third overall with 6 under 138. He carded a 4-under 68 on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka's Rayson Alagama and Bangladesh's Mohammad Sahab Uddin are joint fourth with a score of 4 under 140. Rayson shot 4-under 68 and Sahab 2-under 70 on Wednesday. Overall, Bhutan's Nimdorji Tamang and Nepal's Tasi Tshiring were joint seventh with a score of 2 over 146. Both scored even-par 72. Bangladesh's Safiqul Islam (73) and Nepal's Wangchen Dhondup (80) are joint ninth with an overall score of 4 over 148.

India's Ananthi Vivek is ahead of India's Dia Chris Kumar by 14 strokes with an overall score of 3 under 141. Ananthi scored a 2-under 70. With a score of 1-under 71, Dia finished 11th overall. He is in second position with 155 overs. Nepal's Tara Karki finished third overall with 19 over 163. On Wednesday, she finished with an 11-over 83.

For U-16 boys, India's Vivaan Uvaykar is at the top overall with 1 over 145 and 4 strokes lead. He shot a 1-under 71 on Wednesday. India's Prims Bainshala is second overall with 5 overs of 149. He scored a 2 over 74. India's Adbhay Bagla finished third overall with 8 overs of 152. He shot a 4 over 76 on Wednesday.

Overall, Ruben Thapa of Nepal is in fourth place with 9 over 153. India's PS Nilofar, Nepal's Daniel Banian, Soham Agarwal, Dipsan Lama and Avani Rai have made the cut.
