The fifth edition of Annapurna Marathon was organized on Tuesday from Annapurna base camp (4,130m) to Meshram Barah Mavi Prangan (1,940m) in Ghandruk, Annapurna rural municipality 10, on the occasion of Annapurna mountain climbing. Sunuwar has become the champion of the fifth edition of Annapurna Marathon by completing the prescribed distance of 42.195 km in 4 hours 24 minutes 4 seconds. He got Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand in cash, medal and certificate. He belongs to Tribhuvan Army Club of Nepalese Army from Umakunda Rural Municipality 6, Gupteshwar in Ramechhap.
Army's Subedar Homalal Shrestha became the first runner-up by crossing the prescribed distance in 4 hours 30 minutes 48 seconds. He got Rs 1 lakh in cash, medal and certificate . He is a former winner of Gokulganga Rural Municipality 4, Betali of Ramechhap. He became the second runner-up when he participated for the first time, he became the first runner-up in the third and the winner last year . In the
marathon, Dal Bahadur Kunwar of Jumla Tatopani Rural Municipality 7, Sarmi, became the second runner-up and received a cash prize of 75 thousand rupees, a medal and a certificate. He completed the prescribed distance in 4 hours 33 minutes 21 seconds .
Sunmaya Budha became the winner for women. An ultra runner, she won the women's title by completing the prescribed distance in 4 hours 41 minutes 25 seconds. She received 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees in cash, medal and certificate. Rammaya Budha became the first runner-up by crossing the prescribed distance in 4 hours 50 minutes and 24 seconds. She received Rs 1 lakh in cash, a medal and a certificate.
second runner-up Kalpana Budha became . She covered the prescribed distance in 5 hours 2 minutes 40 seconds . She received 75 thousand rupees in cash, medal and certificate . All the three women winners are from Pare Village, Patarasi Rural Municipality 2, Jumla District, Karnali. According to the organizer of
Annapurna Century Tourism Committee, from this year Gandaki Award and Annapurna Rural Municipality Award have been given as incentives. This year, Sachin Gurung of Annapurna-11, Ghandruk became the winner of Gandaki and Annapurna Rural Municipality and got Rs 30,000 cash, medal and certificate. Marathon technical coordinator Rikki Yonjan informed that 21 women registered in the
competition, but only 14 participated and 63 men participated. With 7 foreign runners from Britain, Thailand, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands and Australia participating, Myriam Sawari from Switzerland won and received 30,000 rupees in cash . 4 Nepali people affiliated with Tamu Pye Lhu Sangh UK also participated in the competition.
Gandaki Provincial Assembly Member Prakash Baral, Chairman of Annapurna Century Tourism Committee Lalit Gurung, Annapurna Rural Municipality 10 Ward President Gautam Gurung, 11 Ward President Him Bahadur Gurung and others distributed prizes to the winners, informed the organizer Dilip Gurung, General Secretary of Annapurna Tourism Committee.
The runner ran from Annapurna base camp to Machhapuchhre base camp, Bagar, Deurali, Hinku Cave, Himalaya, Dobhan, Bambo, Sinuwa, Bhanuwa, Chomrong, Taulu, Ghurjung, Chuinle, Melanche, Komrodanda, Kimrongkhola, Uri to Meshram Barah Mavi playground in Ghandruk.
